Research

Several projects have been commissioned to research and map out the funding and finance landscape of the voluntary and community sector (VCS). This research informs the planning of our projects to fill gaps in service provision which have been identified.

Networking funding advisers (732 KB, .pdf)

This piece of research looked at setting up discussion forums on the website which could be used to network voluntary and community sector advisers. It suggests ways to improve vertical links between national, regional and local advisers and horizontal links between advisers working in the same geographical area.

Research mapping Funders’/Funding Forums in England has been carried out by The Development Trusts Association (DTA) and Acevo.

A model to meet the funding advice needs of frontline organisations in England (590 KB, .pdf)

The result of a piece of research carried out by fit4funding - Charities
Information Bureau. It is an analysis to establish the nature of funding advice and to develop a picture of the needs of front-line organisations with regards to funding advice, analysing potential gaps.

Training and development opportunities for advisers (261 KB, .pdf)

This report evaluates current provisions and works up proposals for a package of training; including fundraising, sources of non grant finance, contract negotiations, income generation through trading, full cost recovery and sustainable funding.

BME Voluntary and community organisations policy and advocacy work report (818 KB, .pdf)

The report establishes mechanisms for ensuring that BME VCOs can positively influence the funding environment and investigates developing the capacity of BME groups to participate in policy and advocacy on relevant issues.

Information gathered on public sector spending rules which can create significant difficulties for voluntary and community sector organisations such as claw back of funds, planning rules and state aid restrictions.
